ASA Philadelphia Newsletter - November 2017
President's Message - Sheila Gorman, ASA
Dear Fellow Chapter Members and Prospective Members:
I am delighted and privileged to serve as your Philadelphia Chapter President for the 2017-2018 year. We send our sincere gratitude to our outgoing President Andrew Sherriff, the Board of Directors, and our Executive Secretary, Joanne Paciello, for their dedicated service and continued efforts in making our chapter one of the leading ASA chapters in the nation.
Last year was a great year for our chapter in terms of service, education, advancements, and admissions. An example of our chapter members' dedication to service includes Susan Golashovsky who just completed her term as the ASA's International President.
Education continued to be one of our strengths as we hosted USPAP classes, appraisal law class updates, and our ever successful annual business valuation seminar which this year won the ASA's Outstanding Chapter Educational Event Award. This event draws well-known speakers from across the country discussing various current business valuation topics. As for our regular chapter meetings, we had several dynamic speakers discussing very pertinent topics for interest among all the disciplines. We also had a very successful May chapter meeting this year at the Simeone Foundation Automotive Museum in Philadelphia where we had an evening of great networking, food, and a presentation of the historical collection of automobiles from Dr. Fred Simeone himself!.
For ASA advancements and admissions, this past year we had four members receive their ASA accreditation, five new applicants, and four applicants who were approved as candidates. Our collective efforts as mentors have resulted in our winning multiple ASA Best Chapter Mentor Program Awards in recent years. We're very proud of this recognition!
For this year we have an exciting slate of speakers scheduled at our meetings. We are holding our meetings at the Doubletree Hotel in Plymouth Meeting as well as locations in the City of Philadelphia. We will also be providing USPAP classes and our annual Spring Business Valuation Seminar. We also will be hosting our fourth annual service/social event in the Fall where members and their guests can donate articles of clothing, books/toys, or a financial contribution to a worthy organization while also being able to socialize outside of a normal meeting setting.
I look forward to serving you all this year and would like to invite all members and prospective members to attend our dinner meetings (a great and easy way to get CPE credits) and become involved in our chapter. You are all invited to attend our executive board meetings which are held one hour prior to our regular dinner meetings (breakfast meeting in January). Our chapter has been so successful due to the efforts of our members and we are always open to having new faces and ideas at our meetings.
