ASA Philadelphia Newsletter - August 2014
President's Message - Eric H. Hencken, ASA
Dear Fellow Chapter Members and Prospective Members:
I am proud and honored to serve as your Philadelphia Chapter President for the 2014-2015 year. I would first like to thank our outgoing president Rob Luciani, the Board of Directors, and our Executive Secretary Joanne Paciello for their dedicated service and continued efforts in making our chapter one of the preeminent ASA chapters in the nation.
Last year was a great year for our chapter in terms of service, education, and advancement/admissions. Some examples of our dedication to service include two members, Susan Golashovsky, our 2013 George D. Sinclair award winner, who completed her term as a Regional Governor and is now serving as our International Secretary/Treasurer, and Mark Penny who just completed his term as International President.
Education continued to be one of our strengths as we hosted USPAP classes, appraisal law class updates, and our ever successful annual spring BV seminar which drew speakers from across the country. We had interesting speakers at our meetings discussing such topics as audit reviews of valuations, healthcare valuation trends, the current state of ASA, and buy-sell agreements. We also had a very successful May meeting at the Union League in Philadelphia where we had a night of fine dining and got a presentation of the League’s history, art, and architecture.
For ASA advancement/admissions we had four members receive their ASA accreditation, five new applicants, and four applicants who were approved as candidates. Our efforts in our mentoring program have resulted in our winning the past two ASA Best Chapter Mentor Program awards which continues to be a positive for our chapter.
For this year we have an exciting slate of speakers scheduled at our meetings at the Doubletree Hotel in Plymouth Meeting. As has also been the norm we will also be providing USPAP classes and our annual Spring BV Seminar. We are also planning an inaugural service/social event in the fall where, as admission, one can donate a toy to a worthy organization while also being able to socialize outside of a normal meeting setting. Another focus will be updating our website for purposes of providing a more useful and user friendly source for all members and visitors.
I look forward to serving you this year and would like to invite all members and prospective members to attend our dinner meetings (a great and easy way to get CPE credits) and become involved in our chapter. You are all invited to attend our executive board meetings which are held one hour prior to our dinner meetings. Our chapter has been great due to our people and we are always open to having new faces and ideas at our meetings.
