About Us

The Philadelphia Chapter of the American Society of Appraisers (ASA) includes over 140 designated and candidate members serving Eastern Pennsylvania and New Jersey. An early (1945) member of the American Society of Technical Appraisers -- an ASA predecessor -- the Philadelphia Chapter is one of the oldest and largest in the nation.

Service
From its inception, the Chapter has been a leader in service and professionalism. Our members are always among those chairing and staffing ASA International Committees. A number of Philadelphia's past Chapter Presidents have gone on, like Samuel F. Luceno, FASA and the late George D. Sinclair, FASA, to serve as Regional Governors. In fact, past Predisdent J. Mark Penny, ASA (right) just finished two terms as our Regional Governor. One of our most distinguished members, George Sinclair also served as ASA's International President (1974-75). Another, Bernard W. Camins, ASA, was recently approved for ASA Life Membership, recognizing "significant contributions and service to ASA."

Award-Winning
At the ASA International Conference in Hollywood, FL in 2007, our Philadelphia Chapter received the President's Trophy for Best Mentor Program, an award we also earned twice before. On that occasion, International President, Leslie H. Miles, Jr., ASA. said:

Mentoring programs are vital to the growth of ASA membership. On behalf of your ASA colleagues, it is my privilege to recognize your chapter for its noteworthy accomplishments in this crucial area. We learn from your example and look forward to many more years of productive service together with the American Society of Appraisers.

At the ASA International Appraisal Conference held in Orlando, FL in July 2009, The Philadelphia Chapter won the Best Chapter Directory Award, and received Honorable Mention for Best Chapter Public Relations Award, repeating the Honorable Mention for Public Relations in 2010 at the ASA International Appraisal Conference held in Las Vegas, NV. In previous years, the Chapter won Best Chapter and Best Mentor Program Awards.

In 2010 at the International Conference in Las Vegas, the Philadelphia Chapter also received the ASA award for Best Chapter Website. International President Michael H. Evans, FASA wrote:

The Philadelphia Chapter has employed exemplary techniques in spreading the word about its informative educational topics and has done an outstanding job of producing a website that is informative to users of appraisal services as well as chapter members.

The Chapter is honored to have among its members, Jay E. Fishman, FASA, whose FASA designation means he belongs to ASA's elite College of Fellows. The College guides ASA with its opinions about appraisal principles and practices.
